It is advisable to ask the dentist for help if you feel you are the kind of person at risk of grinding or clenching when you are sleeping. The dentist will be able to guide you well about whether you are actually doing it or not. If such is the case, he or she may ask you to use a night guard.
A night guard requires a certain amount of care of its own. This is essential so that a person is able to use it for as long as is possible. In our daily oral hygiene care, care for the night guard too is very necessary. This comes part and packaged along with the whole deal of having a night guard in the first place. First and foremost, each and every time you wear the night guard, you should rinse your mouth with warm water – this should be the first thing you do as soon as you remove the night guard from the mouth area. The night guard should also be brushed with your toothbrush. Try to use a brush with soft bristles for this purpose. Also, make it a point to keep the night guard on a flat and clean surface while it is drying. Drying time, ideally speaking, should last between fifteen to thirty minutes.
Make it a point to store your night guard in its proper casing. The dentist will give you the casing or will guide you about where to get it from. Then again, deep cleaning of your night guard, once each week, is most essential. This is done by using a denture cleaner.

As per this, in order to maintain healthy teeth and gums, it is most essential to have daily self care. For instance, one should remove plaque regularly on a daily basis for having and maintaining a good set of teeth. First and foremost, our toothbrush should have soft bristles. Try not to use one with hard bristles since these can be very damaging for your gums and your teeth as well. Flossing is recommended for cleaning in between the teeth. This is not as difficult as some people think it to be.
